About Miel de Lucie

I'm Lucie and I started making jam when I moved to Beech Drive in 2003 and found that a plum tree came with the house.  The jam cellar has been growing ever since, along with the fruit garden I planted.  This includes Raspberries from my grandfather's garden in the beautiful Auvergne region of France, Redcurrants, Apple (mine and my kind neighbours' windfalls), Blackberries (likewise) and Gooseberries (on a good year).

In 2015 I bought my first beehive, and bees have been my passion ever since.  I have passed seven exams about bee health, bee anatomy, queen rearing, hive products and more, and now hold the Advanced Theory Certificate from the British Beekeepers Association.  If you'd like to find out more about bees check out the News section of this website, or arrange to visit the apiary on a sunny day between April and September.

Because keeping bees is almost as expensive as having children, I started selling my produce in 2015 in partnership with the wonderful East Finchley Open, and since 2018 at Rachel and Jeremy's annual NGS open garden on Twyford Avenue, as well as holding a yearly Christmas stall on my doorstep and selling at Eco Show and Tells.

During lockdown I discovered the wonderful work of the Finchley Foodbank and sewed over 300 masks for their customers.  When freedom returned I wanted to carry on supporting the Food Bank, and thankfully 2022 was a good year for honey.

So now whenever @mieldelucie makes a profit, it's donated to the food bank, and it truly feels good to do good.

I don't like food miles and I don't have a tun of stock, so you won't find an online shop or delivery options here: just have a browse at what's available and get in touch to arrange collection from my door: I look forward to meeting you!

Asian Hornet: what can you do to help?

This new invasive species will decimate UK honeybees and other pollinators

The bad news:

- one nest of AH can eat 11kg a year of other pollinators

- AH has had a devastating effect on beekeeping in continental Europe

- AH have been spotted as close as Hackney this year

WE BEEKEEPERS NEED YOUR HELPED YOUR HELP IN CONTAINING THE ASIAN HORNET

The good news:

You can help by recording any suspected sightings on bit.ly/AH_report and even set up bait stations for monitoring purposes.

Check out my new Asian Hornet Bitesize page for information on the Asian Hornet and what you can do

I love empty jars!

Help reduce waste by returning yours

One less piece of recycling in the green bin, what's not to love?  If you're passing by and you have finished any of the jars pictured here, please drop them on my porch.
The two at the back are the 8 and 12oz hexagonal jars you might have bought my honey in.
The two jars front and right are the well-known French brand and its equivalent non-branded size: either will hold 255g of water.  The one front left will hold 161g of water.
I will gratefully use any of these models, they are of course always carefully washed and sterilised before they get refilled.
